What is Area 51?
Area 51 or officially called Homey Airport (KXTA) also called Groom Lake is a highly classified United States Air Force facility located at Nevada Test and Training Range. For decades, details about Area 51 have been classified and the facility became part of popular culture thanks to numerous perpetuated UFO sightings in the area. As per official USAF records, Area 51 is an open training range and supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and even weapon systems.
Area 51 was first acquired in 1955, supposedly for the test of Lockheed U-2 aircraft. Even though there are countless secretive military bases around the world, Area 51 garnered unique attention for a number of factors. One of them being that the base was acknowledged to be in existence only in 2013–that too as a result of a request filed under Freedom of Information Act. The common folklore surrounding Area 51 and UFOs/ Flying Objects have created massive interest around the area–even bringing tourists from around the world.
Where is Area 51?
Original Area 51 was a rectangular military base of 6 by 10 miles (9.7 by 16.1 km). Now it is part of Groom Box which is an area measuring 23 by 25 miles (37 by 40 km) located in a restricted airspace. Area 51 is connected to Nevada Test Site road network and has paved roads which leads south towards Mercury and Yucca Flat towards the west. Groom Lake Road also runs through a pass in Jumbled Hills which was used as a road towards mines in the Groom basin, but this has been closed now.
As with any secretive military base, there are many security checkpoints within the area and after the restricted area is passed, the road goes towards Tikaboo Valley in the East which is also the entry point for many small ranches. This road also connects to the State Route 375 also called the Extraterrestrial Highway.
You should also know that Area 51 borders with Nevada Test Site which was the location of 739 Nuclear tests conducted by the United States Department of Energy. Therefore, to the southwest of Groom lake you will find Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository at around 44 miles or 71 kms.

A name that is synonymous with controversies surrounding Area 51 is Bob Lazar. Bob claimed that he was hired by the US government to reverse engineer extraterrestrial technology that was based in the site which is located a few kilometers away from the actual Area 51.
When Lazar initially came out with his claims, a lot of people believed the conspiracy theory and he went into great detail about an alien craft that was using an antimatter reactor powered by Element 115. He also claimed that he had read documents that detailed how aliens had been involved in major human affairs for over 10,000 years. In spite of all claims Lazar admitted that he had no evidence to back these claims of technology or documentation about Area 51.
According to a report on the dailybeast website, Bob Lazar’s business was raided by the FBI in connection with a claim on a video clip that he had some portion of Element 115.
Ever since Bob Lazar’s story came out, his stories have been analyzed by many people including famous ufologists. In 1990, Bob was convicted for his involvement in a prostitution ring and in 2006 for selling illegal chemicals.
Area 51 Raid or Storm Area 51 September 20th 2019
On June 27, 2019, Matty Roberts a UFO enthusiast got inspired after watching documentaries on Bob Lazar and other UFO conspiracy theorists to create a Facebook event called Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us”, also called as Raid Area 51, Storm Area 51, or Area 51 Raid.
The Event took place on September 20, 2019 at Area 51. Initially over 2 million people responded “going” and 1.5 million “interested” on Facebook events page which caused a lot of media attention and invoked a government response to the event.
On the day of the event, only 150 people reported at the site out of which nobody was able to gain access to Area 51. Because of widespread media attention, the government had already issued advisory to the public discouraging attempting to enter the military base.
On July 10, Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews stated officials were aware of the event, and issued a warning saying: “Area 51 is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces”, adding that “the U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets”.
A viral Reddit post showed what it claimed to be an Air Force briefing on the Naruto run. The FBI also stated that they would be monitoring the situation and the number of people that would come to the events.
The events also prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to post two temporary flight restrictions, closing the airspace above two places nearby Area 51 during the days surrounding the planned raid.
Where is Area 51 in GTA SA?
Being a secretive military base in the United States, not everyone can actually go inside the base and see the “flying saucers” in person. Naturally, Area 51 has also been included in lot of virtual reality games such as GTA or Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
GTA is a no-holds barred game in which players can just about do anything they want. From blowing up airports, invading military bases and reckless driving–it is the ultimate fantasy world.
In GTA SA, Area 51 is called as Area 69/ the Restricted Area. If you look in GTA’s game files you will find the name as No Fly Zone. Same like Area 51, Area 69 is a military base located in the Bone Country desert outside of Fort Carson. It is to the north of Lil’ Probe Inn and south to Verdant Meadows strip.
In GTA SA, the military base Area 69 also has military planes like the Hydra but entering this would be difficult without cheat codes. If you try to fly into Area 69, you will be shot down using Surface to Air missiles and the action will automatically warrant a 5 star wanted level upon entry.
