After getting hired as a Border Patrol Agent, one must pass the training for 19 weeks in New Mexico. This training is held at Border Patrol Academy in Artesia. The on-the-job training of a Border Patrol Agent comprises of firearms use, immigration laws, nationality laws, and physical training. In order to pass the on-the-job training, a candidate must maintain at least a 70% average score. If a candidate does not speak Spanish, then he must also undergo a special Spanish language training program at the Academy.
